Welcome back! We have been referencing scripture a lot in every episode so far and there is a reason for this. Simply put, Christians believe that the Bible is the word of God. This belief forms one of the core beliefs of Christianity. The Word of God is something that we seek, meditate on, and something that we do, not just occasionally but everyday.
Now the Bible is not the only way that God speaks. We see a lot of times in the Bible, God speaking through a prophet, or an angel, or a dream or vision, or even speaking directly to someone, but the Bible is the medium in which all other methods are judged to be truly from God. The Berean Jews were actually commended for checking even the Apostle Paul’s teaching against what they read in scripture to see if what he said was true.
For the Bible itself, it is divided into 2 parts. The old testament and the new testament. Jesus consistently referred to the old testament as the “Law and the prophets.” and actually the Old testament is quoted or referred to in the New testament hundreds of times. The new testament contains the events of the life of Jesus and the apostles, as well as, the teachings of the apostles.
The reading and studying of God’s written word is one of the best things you can do. Psalm 1 gives us this beautiful image of someone that is meditating on God’s word day and night. They are compared to a tree planted by streams of water. Never withering and giving fruit in it’s time. We’ll continue to talk about the Word of God next time. Hope to see you then!
